Additionally to a series of renovations and refurbishments inside the school buildings, the project consists of two main interventions.
Firstly, a new staircase allows a direct connection of all the upper levels of the school to the courtyard. The fire-safety issue at hand was turned into the opportunity of a spectacular addition to the setting and use of the courtyard.
Secondly, a canopy was designed. Its circular shape links two buildings and confers a pivotal role. Built with arguably the largest ETFE cushion technologically possible, with a radius of 11m, the canopy floats above the playground as a cloud, an silent UFO or perhaps a strange translucent jellyfish. The layout of the courtyard itself was designed by Forest Landschap and Grasatelier.
