VORST - 14 appartments and multifunctional space - invited competition 2008
collaboration : Ferrière architects
14 small sized appartments and a multifunctional space are to be injected in a small sized but quite heterogeneous urban context. As the street calls for restructuration and the program itself is not following upcoming living standards, the project adopts a extremely simple but radical posture.
The interior of the plot is left completely unbuilt in order to free space for a large garden. On streetside, the building is condensed into a very simple structure made of two structural facades and large empty slabs. This potenializes any possible future adaptation to new standards or uses. It could become a library, a school or even standard compliant social housing.
The project is developed further according strictly functional constraints : strong insulation, long lasting tiled facade, green roofs etc ensure the construction of a very low-energy building, precisely avoiding any designerly tricks. Efficiency rules.
