VMSW XL07 - 2007 - 24 social housing units competition - third prize
The XL07 competition in Antwerp (B) aims the construction of 24 new social housing units in a late modernistic low-rise housing block. The project articulates two disctinct typologies in order to preserve and extend this existing local network of inner public spaces between the backyards. On the one hand, low-rise housings extend the existing house-backyard typology. On the other hand, a medium-rise tower is situated north of a larger and vivid square between the gardens. Compacity and standardized building solutions ensure the achievement of low building costs and of a low carbon footprint. Added to contextual finetuning and social mixity, the project induces a new and sustainable identity to the neighbourhood. |
