Stavelot - Competition for the construction of a cultral centre - 2009 Client : CFWB Status : 2nd prize Team : AgwA + Artau + Arcadis + Ar-Te + ATS The new cultural centre is set in the rich cultural heritage surrounding of the abbey of Stavelot , which appears in the perspective, as well as in the industrial context of the plain of Bressaix boarding the city with its simple and economical volumetry (old factory, power station, sport centre). It fits in the context in a quiet and sober way nevertheless affirming its own identity trough its volumetry which is nothing else than the strict reflection of the internal organization and the nature of the space inside. With its compact footprint, the cultural centre does not spread over the entire street but spares a wide opening on the landscape. Each of the fifth facade, including the roof, create a direct link with its own surrounding. The cladding of each of them is made of dark wood. This surface continuity of the external skin gives to the centre a specific nature echoing the timberland of Stavelot. |
