The new service center of the Sint-Gillis-Waas municipality in Flanders is rooted in the park of the ancient castle. Its square footprint, slight sloping roofs en refined materiality convert the building in a recognizable but soft element in the landscape and in the collective memory. The wooded spaces of the park are accessible from four directions.

The service center develops on only one floor, making it particularly accessible. The space is organized through mere proximity, in a very non-hierarchical way. The welcoming desk is located at the very core of the structure, thus positioning service to the citizens at the center of attention.

The structure is limited to a virtual minimum of facade walls, an irregular grid of columns and the soft concrete slopes of the roofs. The building is modeled according to passive house standards, and is designed to be near zero-energy thanks to the use of sustainable power sources.
