The new service center of the Sint Gillis Waas commune in Flanders is rooted in the park of the ancient castle. Its square footprint, slight sloping roofs en refined materiality convert the building in a recognizable but soft element in the landscape and in the collective memory. The wooded spaces of the park are accesible from the four directions.

The service center develops on only one floor, making it utmost accesible. The space is organized through mere proximity, in a very unhierarchical way. The welcome desk is located in the very core, thus positioning the service to the citizens at the center of the attention.

The structure is limited to a virtual minimum of facade walls, an irregular grid of columns and the soft concrete slopes of the roofs. The building is conceived according the passive house standards, and is designed to be near-energy zero thanks to the use of sustainable energy sources.
