Public spaces should be highly flexible and uniform. Homogeneity and lack of superfluous installations should be their main property. But in Turhout, the case is somewhat complicated : an important church and its garden have a central position on the marketplace.

How can we charge the remaining space with signification and transform the space consuming garden into new potential for Turnhout ?

The garden is hypertrophied to a big rectangle, thus becoming a kind of intimate "roof" that can shelter various activities. The status of the church and its garden gets reinforced and delimit clearly defined open spaces.

The main traffic flows receive a clear, almost cliché expression, ensuring legibility and security. All bus stops are condensed in one new infrastructure, which also proposes new potentialities by forming a public tribune on the main space.
